Taitung is a rural town on the coast. The river delta is wide so in the dry season , sends dust into the township. This has been reduced by the creation of a green belt called the “Black Forest”. It has become a popular recreational area for the town.

Yes those dark shapes are fish

Hot pot in Taiwan is a popular meal . Are you ready to try it? Choose from ready made food or go choose meat, vegetables and spices…..and add them to your boiling stock and eat.

All ready made dishes
Meat and fish
Vegetables
Eat! I chose all the different types of mushrooms.
And then dessert
And a robot collects the dirty dishes.
Breezy Blue

The town’s other claim to fame is the “Breezy Blue”. This is an historical train that runs from Taitung to the outer suburbs of Kaohsiung, our next stop. It’s a little like the NSW red rattlers but with more comfortable seats

.

On the journey, you can stop to experience some of the original indigenous culture. Did you join the dance?  Catching fish and crabs with the triangular net at high tide would be tricky.

Street lights with deer heads

Arranged marriages were common up until 60 years ago. Their woven ceremonial dress is intricate and we know the chief has a headdress with 3 feathers. The men carry 3 knives but the explanations were confusing don’t you think.

Kaohsiung has a major harbour and the Love River. Coming to the city at night is to experience a wonder land of coloured lights.

This morning it had become an ordinary city again.

Don’t sit too close

Dragon and tiger temples at Lotus lake

The Lotus Lake with its temples is colourful. We looked at 3 and decided it was too hot to venture any further. Are you feeling hot too?

There are turtles in the lake but they were too well fed and caused problems. The numbers are now reduced and no feeding is allowed.

I think back to the bus to cool down. We will be heading to Chiayi and the Hinoki village next.
