Today is trains and more trains, we are off to the Zig Zag railway. This was built as a way to access the plateau in the Blue Mountains.  Using cuttings and viaducts, the train is able to move up the gradient. Cuttings were created in the rock using hand tools. It was a single track line and proved popular means of moving people and goods.

The development of roads and better tunnelling methods meant a faster and more frequent method was needed. Eventually the Zig Zag railway became obsolete and was abandoned. Not anymore…now it is a thriving tourist attraction run by volunteers. Didn’t you enjoy the smell of coal smoke and  seeing the valleys from a slower form of transport.

High tea at the Hydro Majestic ……and more glorious view. Yummy but oh so much. A walk to see the three sisters but they were shrouded in mist….are you ready to head home? Back to the train and see you soon.
